Setting your Internet options on a Windows computer |

Click on the Start button and then click on Control Panel |

Click on Internet Options |
|
Click on the Content tab, your window will look like this. |

In the Content Advisor section, click on Enable, and the window below will open |

In this box you will see: The type of content it can filter or block A description of the type of material, this example is showing sexual content and the description of what it will prevent from coming through. The slide bar allows you to stop all such content, have limited blocking and unrestricted access.
Take a few minutes and go through each category to set each individually. Remember that a description of the material blocked will be in the lower section. |

When you have made the changes you want you can click on the Approved sites tab |

In this box you can add or label sites that can always be seen or never be seen. To do so you just enter the URL or web address of the site you wish to block or allow in the Allow this site box and click on Always or Never. It will then appear in the box of approved and disapproved sites below. Click on the General tab |

In this box you can control whether sites that have not been rated by any of the online rating services can be viewed
The supervisor password is referring to the administrator of the computer. If these features are used the administrator can give access to individual sites that are being blocked.
Ratings systems can be provided by online services, groups or organizations and by:
Clicking on the Find rating system box, access the Internet to search for available services
Rating system box displays any rating systems installed and allows you to install or remove such systems |

This Advanced tab allows you to used Internet ratings created by rating bureaus or using PICRules. Using such a ratings bureau can slow down your Internet access time. To see the most current services available do search on Internet Ratings Bureau’s with your favorite search engine.
PICRules are filters that are written by third parties that can be imported to the tools. Again, these can slow down response time and if you are interested in these features simply do a search on the term in a search engine such as Google. |
